At the Monday news briefings, the Commissioner of police Rivers State command Port Harcourt CP ZAKIM AHMED had a chat with the press to give the updates of his achievements thus far.

He once again reminded us of his vision and mission as he assumed duty as the commissioner which he said would be centered on the following objectives;

i)       Total War against crime and criminality.

ii)      Zero Tolerance for corruption.

iii)     Policing with International best practices.

iv)     Community partnership in combating crime.

 He also in his statement, shows his regret and apologizes for the event that occurred on the 19thAugust,2017 in which one Victoria Chikamzo Mesu was mercilessly killed and dismembered by a 200 level student of the University of Port Harcourt, Ifeanyi Chukwu Maxwell Dike for ritual purposes.

His arrest and parade before the press on Saturday 19th August 2017 was also a clear indication that the Police alongside the public is set on eradicating crime in our society but Information of his alleged escape from an IPO in the course of statement taking did not only leave a sour taste in the mouth of the command, but also created a dent in his avowed fight against crime and criminality.

Nevertheless he has assured the public that the suspect will be re-arrested and anyone that aided him to escape, regardless status, will also be made to face the law if found wanting. In pursuit of this, one ex-Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroeze after thorough investigation was discovered to have aided the escape of the suspect.

During his trial, it was revealed that he released the suspect to run and later hypocritically raised an alarm of his escape; investigations are still on and this ex-Sergeant was accordingly dismissed from his duties and charged to court and they are further promising the re-arrest of the suspect.

They have arrested 23 suspects, discovered and confiscated about 255 arms and weapons and have also recovered 9 vehicles which were reportedly stolen. The command is indeed putting in much effort to create a crime free society. We wish them luck in their endeavors.
