Breaking: Soludo wins Anambra Governorship election by landslide

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won the Anambra governorship election by a landslide, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to results announced by INEC, from the 21 local governments, APGA secured 422, 664 votes, leaving its closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC), far behind with APC, 99445 votes.

The Labour Party (LP) came third with 10,576 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded only 1,401 votes.

A breakdown of the results shows that Soludo dominated across the state’s three senatorial districts. In Dunukofia Local Government, APGA polled 14,892 votes, while APC scored 3,284, LP had 71, and PDP managed 16. In Njikoka, APGA led with 22,213 votes, APC got 5,687, LP recorded 311, and PDP secured 47.

The trend continued in Awka North, where APGA amassed 15,895 votes against APC’s 3,661. In Soludo’s home area, Aguata Local Government, APGA recorded a landslide 35,559 votes, followed by APC’s 4,125 and YPP’s 2,746. Orumba South and Orumba North also went to APGA with 19,818 and 24,664 votes respectively, leaving APC far behind with 2,828 and 2,615 votes.

In Oyi Local Government, APGA scored 18,882 votes, APC 5,118, and LP 3,641, while Anambra East gave APGA 14,665 votes, with APC trailing at 3,108 and YPP polling 6,153. Anyamelum followed the same pattern with APGA at 13,340 votes against APC’s 7,478.

The pattern of dominance was replicated across other LGAs:

Nnewi North: APGA – 20,320; APC – 541

Nnewi South: APGA – 17,286; APC – 9,281

Ogbaru: APGA – 22,803; APC – 3,768

Onitsha North: APGA – 24,225; APC – 4,677

Onitsha South: APGA – 15,742; APC – 4,156

Anaocha: APGA – 20,118; APC – 5,956

Idemili North: APGA – 25,498; APC – 638

Idemili South: APGA – 7,224; APC – 6,015

Ekwusigo: APGA – 18,749; APC – 2,973

Awka South: APGA – 27,896; APC – 5,038

From the figures, APGA’s lead is consistent and overwhelming, with Soludo winning by wide margins in every LGA announced. In some areas, such as Idemili North and Nnewi North, the gap between APGA and APC exceeded 20,000 votes. Even in LGAs where the APC showed some strength, like Nnewi South and Anyamelum, Soludo maintained a comfortable advantage.

The outcome reflects a strong endorsement of Soludo’s administration and the continuing influence of APGA in Anambra politics. Since taking office, Soludo has focused on infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, and local economic development, which appear to have resonated with voters across the state.
