The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made significant strides in its investigations into alleged financial misappropriation within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
Following discreet investigations, the EFCC has recovered a staggering sum of N32.7 billion and $445,000 linked to fraudulent activities within the ministry. These investigations have shed light on various fraudulent dealings involving Covid-19 funds, World Bank loans, and the Abacha recovered loot, all intended for poverty alleviation initiatives.
Notably, past and suspended officials of the Humanitarian Ministry have been implicated in these fraudulent practices, with several interdicted individuals allegedly linked to financial malfeasance. The EFCC’s probe extends beyond individuals, targeting a complex web of fraudulent practices within the system.
Moreover, the EFCC has taken decisive action against banks involved in the alleged fraud, with managing directors of indicted banks cooperating with investigators. Those found complicit will face prosecution accordingly, as the EFCC maintains its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law.
In addition to its efforts against financial malpractice, the EFCC is actively combatting the abuse of the national currency. The Commission acknowledges the public’s increasing awareness and involvement in reporting instances of Naira abuse, demonstrating a collective commitment to preserving the sanctity of the national currency.
