The Rivers State government is set to begin construction of a 2.5km shoreline reclamation project for Ndoni, Oniukwu, Isiukwu and Ase-Azaga communities in Ogba/ Egbema/Ndoni local government area. The state’s executive council in October 2025 formally approved the initiative as part of broader shoreline protection efforts.

Siminalayi Fubara, state governor, while flagging off the project in March 2026, said it aims to combat erosion and reclaim land in riverine communities. The intervention follows increasing environmental concerns in the region’s flood-prone areas.
China Harbour Construction to deliver project by December
Temple Nwofor, professor and Commissioner for Works, during an on-site inspection, said the project, contracted to China Harbour Construction Company, is expected to be completed before the end of the year. The commissioner added that soil tests and other environmental impact assessment requirements for the project had been concluded.
The essence of the project is to protect the communities against unforeseen flooding that may occur, Nwofor said. He noted that without such protection, the future safety of the environment and the communities could be endangered when water levels rise.
