IWD: Empowering women not charity, but investment in Nigeria’s future — First Lady

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has said that empowering women should not be viewed as an act of charity but as a critical investment in the nation’s collective future.

Mrs. Tinubu made the remark on Sunday in a message commemorating the 2026 International Women’s Day, marked globally on March 8.

According to the First Lady, the theme of this year’s celebration, “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls”, underscores the urgent need to ensure women and girls have equal access to opportunities that enable them to contribute meaningfully to national development.

This year’s theme reminds us that empowering women is not an act of charity; it is an investment in our collective future,” she said.

She noted that providing women with access to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, leadership platforms, justice, and equity would lead to stronger families, more prosperous communities, and a more inclusive nation.

The First Lady stressed that the advancement of women remains essential to Nigeria’s growth and stability.
