The Rivers State Marine Emergency Service was officially activated last week at Tourist Beach, marking a major step in strengthening emergency response across the state’s waterways.
The activation featured emergency drills, rescue simulations, skilled divers and a colourful boat regatta, demonstrating the readiness and operational capacity of the marine response team. The initiative is designed to improve access to prompt emergency medical support for remote and riverine communities in Rivers State, where water transportation remains critical to survival during emergencies.
As part of the activation, a boat ambulance set sail for Bonny Kingdom, symbolising expanded emergency healthcare coverage for riverine areas.
Dr. Mina Jaja and the Rivers State Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (REMSAS) team were commended for their collaboration and commitment in bringing the marine emergency service initiative to life.
