In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, the HAGREB Mentorship Foundation, in collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Bar Association Port Harcourt Branch, hosted a Mentors Summit themed “Give to Gain.” The event brought together professionals and thought leaders to discuss mentorship, leadership, and the advancement of women in society.
Delivering her address at the summit, the Founder of the HAGREB Mentorship Foundation, E. N. Thompson, emphasized the importance of mentorship in shaping future leaders. She noted that mentorship plays a critical role in empowering women and guiding the next generation toward purposeful leadership and meaningful societal impact. According to her, individuals who aspire to grow in leadership must be nurtured through mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals.
Chairman of the event, Florence Adokiye Amesiamaka, in her remarks, welcomed participants and stressed the need for sustained mentorship to help women grow and excel in their respective fields. She encouraged collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous support for women striving to make meaningful contributions to society.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Port Harcourt Branch, Cordelia U. Eke, commended the organisers for creating a platform that promotes mentorship and leadership development. She noted that such initiatives are essential in fostering opportunities for women and strengthening their participation in professional and leadership spaces.
A major highlight of the summit was a panel discussion featuring distinguished professionals who shared perspectives on mentorship, leadership, sponsorship, and the advancement of women. Panelists included Heoma Nsirim-Worlu, Director of Gender Studies at the University of Port Harcourt; Consultant Ophthalmologist Bassey Fiebai; Judge of the Rivers State Judiciary T. S. Oji; and Oluwatoyin Odobo, Chairperson of the Network of Entrepreneurial Women in Rivers State.
The panel discussion focused on the role of mentorship in empowering women, encouraging leadership, and creating opportunities for growth through shared knowledge and experience.
Awards were later presented to the panelists in recognition of their participation and contributions to the success of the Mentors Summit held in commemoration of International Women’s Day.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sotonye, who expressed appreciation to the speakers, organisers, partners, and participants whose contributions made the summit a success. She also reaffirmed the importance of mentorship, collaboration, and sustained efforts toward empowering women and promoting meaningful growth through shared knowledge.
