Rotary Club of Port Harcourt South marks 40th Anniversary

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt South is commemorated its 40th Anniversary with a 3 day line up of events.The Club was founded on 17th February 1983 and over the past Forty years of its existence, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt South has made significant impacts on the society within its immediate community and beyond, through various life changing and people-oriented projects and programmes.

As part of activities lined-up for its 40th Anniversary the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt South visited a Government Secondary school in Port Harcourt to Plant 40 trees as its remit to support environmental and ecological amelioration. The Club also visited Home for the Elderly, and afterwards held a Fundraising Dinner to celebrate its 40th Anniversary.

Rotarian Bara Alagoma, Phf, who is the 40th President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt South, Congratulated the members of the club “for sticking together through thick and thin, promoting Rotary core values, touching and bettering lives of people across vast regions, building and sustaining sold friendships and far beyond. Keep this flag flying at full mast, always,” he added.

In her address, the Chair, 40th Anniversary Committee, Rtn Ivy Davies Etokakpan, said; “We welcome the 40th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt South with great prospects and ambitions as our contribution to humanity, working together and putting service over self-daily come to fruition.”

“Safe to say that so far, we have continued to represent the values of Rotary international, as well as uphold the good name of our club within the Rotary society. Keeping this in mind, we have anticipated this event with great joy, and today as it unfolds before our eyes, I hope we delight fully in the happenings of the day, and in the good that will surely come as a result of this momentous occasion,” she said.

The high-point of the ceremony was the cutting of the Club’s 40th Anniversary Cake. Earlier, awards were presented to well meaning Nigerians and club members who have created a positive impact in the society.

The celebrations were rounded up with a fund raising gala night which featured American auction and Raffle draws as actions to raise funds for the Rotary foundation and the Club’s building project.

In attendance was the District Governor, district 9141, Rotarian Mightyman Aye Dikuro, Past district governor, Rotarian Ijeoma Pearl Okoro, Assistant governors of district 9141, AG Elle Illah Idachaba, amongst many other distinguished ladies and gentlemen.
