UPHOLD TRUTH, INTEGRITY, GOV FUBARA CHARGES JUDICIARY, POLITICAL LEADERS
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the Nigerian judiciary and political class to prioritise truth and place the pursuit of justice above personal or sectional interests.
The Governor made the appeal on Wednesday night during a state banquet at Government House in Port Harcourt, held in honour of Justice Obietonbara Owupele Daniel-Kalio following his retirement from the Court of Appeal, Asaba Division.
Governor Fubara emphasised that the definitive measure of leadership is not how it begins, but how one’s years of service ends.
He noted that restoring excellence in public life requires a steadfast commitment to integrity and high ethical standards.
Governor Fubara lauded Justice Daniel-Kalio as a “model of excellence,” noting that his honourable exit from the bench serves as both a source of pride for Rivers State and a vital lesson for the next generation of legal practitioners and politicians.
The Governor further indicated that despite his retirement, the state intends to draw upon the jurist’s wealth of experience for future development initiatives.
Justice Simeon Amadi, the Chief Judge of Rivers State acknowledged the profound impact of Justice Daniel-Kalio’s mentorship, noting how he benefited from the retired jurist’s experience during his transition into the office of Chief Judge.
Vera Sam-Dike, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of Rivers State ministry of Justice, described the honouree as a pillar of the rule of law whose career was defined by a commitment to justice that touched countless lives.
In a heartfelt response, Justice Daniel-Kalio expressed gratitude for the “rare show of appreciation” from the state.
Reflecting on his years on the bench, he described his career as deeply fulfilling and reaffirmed his belief that an independent judiciary remains the primary stabilising force in any progressive society.
