“This is a boarding announcement, Planet Air Flight NG 183 to Abuja is now ready for boarding at gate 2” the voice from the loud speaker echoed repeatedly. “That’s me,” Annie said, jumping up to join the queue.
She had just gotten some time off work and was going to spend it with her cousin Esther in Abuja. She had just broken up with her long term boyfriend and had been going through a lot of stress, so when Esther invited her over, she gladly jumped at it.
Finally, after all the hustle and bustle, she was seated at the window seat,one she had carefully gone out of her way to reserve because she loved the view from the sky, “Hope I don’t get one boring old man or annoying cry baby as a seat partner” she thought to herself,
“it would be nice to have someone interesting seat beside me for once”. Almost immediately, a fine young man dressed in a suit came towards her direction sitting beside her and fastening his seat belt, it was just as if he had read her mind. “this should do” she thought smiling to herself.
“Good morning” he said turning towards her, “Morning ” she replied smiling ,he smiled back and turned to pick the magazine in front of him to read, She didn’t want to risk losing her new seat mate’s company to a magazine so she immediately started a conversation “are you visiting Abuja or do you live there?”,
“I’m there most of the time because of work, I actually live in Lagos” he replied. That was how their conversation began, they spoke throughout the flight and there was never a dull moment, Tina was surprised at how well they clicked, she usually never got along this well with a stranger on the first day, he had told her his name was Josh and that he was a businessman though he refused to tell what kind of business despite
much persuasion from her.
She liked him already, he was confident and good looking with a good sense of humour. They exchanged contacts and arranged to meet up later that night for drinks.
She excitedly narrated her interesting flight experience to Esther who was equally excited to hear the story when they met later on, they spent the rest of the evening catching up and picking out her outfit for the date.
Annie arrived at the restaurant parking lot at 7pm just as planned, just at about the same time a black Porsche Carrera pulled up in the spot beside her, she saw a familiar looking handsome figure get down from the car, he smiled walking towards her “just in time” he said,
“I hate to keep beautiful ladies waiting”, Annie blushed, she could not believe her eyes, ” damn!” She thought to herself, “I don hammer! That car has definitely got me tripping.”
She was having the time of her life and was enjoying every moment she spent with Josh who seemed to be a perfect gentleman. Towards the end of the outing, he seemed a bit distant, he kept looking at his watch like he was anxious about something, she was about to ask if anything was wrong when his phone rang, he picked it up hurriedly “mission accomplished?” He whispered,
“I’ll be there right away,” he said, jumping up.
“Where are you going?” Annie asked looking confused, “I can’t talk now,call me later tonight, ” he said, dropping a fresh bundle of 1000 naira notes on the table and speeding off.
