2026 FIFA World Cup: President Tinubu Congratulates Super Eagles, Urges Team to Keep Hope Alive
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles on their emphatic 4–0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, commending the team for keeping Nigeria’s qualification hopes for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alive.
In a statement following the match in Uyo, President Tinubu lauded the players for their hunger, passion, and determination, describing their performance as one that has reignited national pride and confidence in Nigerian football.
“While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs,” the President said.
He noted that the mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
President Tinubu further assured the players and coaching crew of the Federal Government’s continued support, urging them to remain focused and resilient.
