The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) has announced plans to enrol pupils in all public primary schools across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state into its health insurance scheme.
The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Agala, disclosed this during an advocacy visit to the Chairman and management of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Agala noted that the state has recently recorded a high number of chronically malnourished children, stressing that the agency is willing and ready to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure that children across the state remain healthy and have access to quality healthcare services.

During the visit, the RIVCHPP boss also solicited the support of SUBEB in facilitating the enrolment of all staff and teachers under the board into the programme’s health insurance scheme.
She highlighted the numerous benefits available to enrollees, including improved access to medical care and financial protection against health-related expenses.
She expressed appreciation to the SUBEB Chairman, Sam Ogeh, for his role in the establishment of RIVCHPP in 2019 when he served as Chairman of the House Committee on Health in the State Assembly.
Dr. Agala assured the board that, given the state government’s sustained investment and interest in the health sector, all enrollees would receive quality medical services at accredited health facilities across the state.
In his remarks, Hon. Ogeh commended the performance of RIVCHPP, describing health insurance as “the right way to go.”
He, however, urged the management of the programme to intensify its advocacy and awareness campaigns to ensure that more residents, particularly those who stand to benefit the most, are adequately informed about the initiative.
The SUBEB Chairman pledged the board’s willingness to collaborate with RIVCHPP, assuring the management of its full support to ensure the successful implementation of the programme for the benefit of the people of Rivers State.
As part of the visit, the Executive Secretary presented promotional materials of RIVCHPP to the board.
