Nigeria / Germany Deepen Strategic Partnership

Nigeria and Germany have strengthened their strategic partnership following a meeting between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and German Ambassador Annett Günther.

Discussions focused on multilateral cooperation, economic collaboration, and cultural heritage preservation, with both sides pledging reciprocal support for UN Security Council candidacies and broader UN reforms.

Ambassador Günther described the 2025 Bi-National Commission meeting as a milestone and commended Nigeria’s backing of Germany’s 2024 UN Security Council bid. Germany also advocated increased African representation on the council.

Ambassador Dunoma Umar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sustained diplomatic engagement, mutual support in multilateral forums, and cooperation in infrastructure development, particularly energy transmission.

The meeting underscored the depth and maturity of Nigeria-Germany relations, built on mutual respect and shared global responsibilities.
