The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Tonye Briggs-Oniyide, today officially flagged off the construction of the Abonnema Cemetery. She emphasized that the project will provide an organized and dignified space for laying loved ones to rest, addressing a long-standing need in the community.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Bar Tammy Danagogo, praised the initiative, noting that the cemetery project had been a dream for past administrations in Akuku-Toru but is now becoming a reality under the leadership of Hon. Briggs-Oniyide.
Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has praised the initiative to construct the Abonnema Cemetery, emphasizing its importance as a dignified and organized resting place for the departed.
Chief Lulu-Briggs highlighted the significance of such a project in preserving the community’s cultural values while addressing a pressing need for proper burial facilities. His commendation adds to the growing support for the initiative, which is spearheaded by the Chairman of Akuku-Toru LGA, Hon. Tonye Briggs-Oniyide.
Dr. David T. Briggs also highlighted the importance of the project, stating it would greatly benefit the people of Abonnema by offering a well-structured burial site.
The Amayanabo of Abonnema, His Majesty Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel, commended the chairman for her vision and urged her team to collaborate effectively to ensure the successful completion of the project.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the traditional rulers of Abonnema, Hon. Monima Agba Harry (Chairman of Degema LGA), Hon. Ichemati Ezebunwo (Mayor of Port Harcourt), Hon. Sule Amachree ( chairman of Asari-Toru local government Area), the Commissioner for Finance, and several other distinguished guests.
