Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Tonye Briggs Oniyide, charged members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Akulga chapter, to be proactive and contribute to the growth and development of the LGA.

Hon. Briggs Oniyide gave the charge when she received members of NYCN at the Council Headquarters in Abonnema on Thursday. While commending the youths for their passion in promoting peace in the area, Hon. Briggs Oniyide called on them to come together and seek ways of building a long-lasting and peaceful environment in the communities.

She assured the group of her continuous support in growing and developing the youths in ways that they would become greater leaders of tomorrow. “Come together, bring all the youths as one, and organize yourselves to protect your communities, development interests in the greater good of the area; be proactive, create room to learn new skills, and always demonstrate competence in all you do,” she said.

“I’m assuring you that I will always support you so that together we can build a peaceful environment in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.”

In a related development, Hon. Briggs Oniyide also hosted a delegation of the Interface Committee from the Abonnema Council of Chiefs and the Akuku-Toru Council of Chiefs, where she promised them her continuous support towards growth in the area. She eulogized the chiefs for their role in promoting peace in the area, assuring that their commitment towards a greater Akuku-Toru will not go unrewarded.

Earlier, the chairman had received members of the Kalabari Christian Assembly, led by Bishop Emmanuel O. Bobmanuel, where she called for prayerful support in the development of the area. The visit, which came ahead of the Kalabari National Day Celebrations, was to solicit the support of the local government leadership in mobilizing Akuku-Toru people to participate in the event.
