Class of 1983 Alumni Association Marks 40th Anniversary celebration in Port Harcourt

The Class of 1983 Alumni Association of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) now Methodist Girls High School (MGHS) Harbour Road Port Harcourt, held a four days reunion ceremony commemorating their 40th Anniversary celebration in Port Harcourt.

The eventful celebration commenced with reunion, bonding and reconnecting after forty years of Secondary School, for some it was the first time meeting each other since their heyday of youth.

The Old Girls of 1983 GGSS on Friday 6 July 2023 went back to their alma mater held mentoring talk grooming the young students by renowned thespian Hilda Dokubo, Business and Personal growth using Social media as a Tool by the Publisher Eveafrique News, Ivy Davies Etokakpan, Health talk by the famous Lifestyle Coach, Maggie Jack Boyle and Presentation of awards and certificates to teachers of the set 83 class and current outstanding students in the School respectively.

Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) now Methodist Girls High School Harbour Road, Port Harcourt is a private, all-female high school in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Located in old Port Harcourt Township, It is owned and operated by the Methodist Church Nigeria, Port Harcourt. The School was known for its popularity and distinguished intellectual capacity in the City of Port Harcourt.

The 40th Anniversary celebration also featured a Dinner Party at Visa Karena hotel Port Harcourt and a Thanksgiving at the Methodist Church Harbour Road Port Harcourt.

The set Leader Martha Frank Alli described the momentous Anniversary as Grace in the Journey of life. “This is our forty years Anniversary, After forty years of Secondary some of us are seeing each other for first time. We are excited and we want to thank God for giving us life to embrace each other,” she said.

“As we celebrate this milestone, let us reflect on the journey that has brought us here, Harbour School triumph over challenges. It has a testament to the unwavering spirit our students and teachers and alumni, we have worked tirelessly to uphold the values of knowledge and integrity.”

On her part, the secretary of class 83 set Ibinabo Celestine Ogolo, revealed that the need to form the Alumni Association was to reunite and impact the School and students.

The highpoint of the eventful celebration was the presentation awards to the teachers of the class 83 set and the cutting of 40th Anniversary Cake. The event was well attended by Class 83 GGSS, Teachers, Students, Friends and family members.
