The Executive Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Agiriye Monima Harry, has pledged his support for the upcoming 9th annual Kalabari National Day of Thanksgiving and Rededication, scheduled for December 6, 2024.
Organized by the Association of Kalabari Christians (AKC), an umbrella body representing Christian faithful in the three Kalabari-speaking Local Government Areas, the event will take place in Abonnema, the headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
During a meeting with AKC leadership in Degema, the Council Chairman commended the association for initiating and sustaining this annual program for the past nine years. He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to supporting the event in December.
He expressed his intention to collaborate with his counterparts in Akuku-Toru and Asari-Toru to explore opportunities for cooperation that would benefit the entire Kalabari ethnic nationality.
Earlier, Pastor T.B. Tobins, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, explained that the AKC had visited the Council to formally invite the Chairman and Mayor of Kalabari to the event, and to seek their financial support and mobilization of Degema residents.
Pastor Tobins also informed the Council Chairman that Degema would host the 10th edition next year, with the Chairman serving as the Chief Host and Special Guest.
Bishop Emmanuel Oyiboye Bob-Manuel assured the Council Chairman of the group’s spiritual support, emphasizing the importance of prayer in overcoming leadership challenges. He commended the Chairman’s initiative to collaborate with other local government leaders, describing it as a groundbreaking and welcome development.
The meeting was attended by Bishop Nimi John Fyneface, Primate of the Lutheran Congregation of Nigeria; Bishop Emmanuel Oyiboye Bob-Manuel; Apostle Taribo West; and Apostle Collins Briggs, among others.
