The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) inspected an emergency shelter built for flood-displaced persons in Otuokpoti, Bayelsa State.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director and CEO of NDDC, along with Sir Victor Antai, the Executive Director of Projects, and other Commission Directors, visited the NDDC Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp located in Otuokpoti.
During the inspection, Dr Ogbuku spoke to the press, highlighting that the Emergency Shelter Project, initiated under the current Board and Management of the NDDC, includes a police post, hospital, school, cafeteria, viewing centres, recreational areas, warehouse, and hostels that can accommodate up to 2,000 people across three large blocks.
He stated, “This project will be completed and commissioned within the first quarter of next year, alongside other projects. We currently have six similar facilities under construction: two in Bayelsa, two in Delta, and two in Rivers State.”
The NDDC CEO emphasised that this mini-community facility is designed to provide a suitable home for individuals displaced by flooding emergencies.
