Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri today January 18th 2023, hosted traditional rulers from the South-South region to a 2-day Extraordinary General Assembly at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa.
The meeting with the theme, “Entrenching Grassroot Security and Peace in the South-South Region During and After the 2023 General Elections” had in attendance Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and all Monarchs from the region.
In his welcome address, Governor Diri said “In the forthcoming elections, we must all do our best to prevent our youths from being used to perpetrate electoral violence by politicians with desperate ambitions.
Let me further recommend this very glamorous meeting to other regions to emulate what the South-South monarchs have done today.
I further recommend it even to the Independent National Electoral Commission to take the bull by the horn by organizing this kind of forum for our traditional institutions across the country to have this heart-to-heart discussion with INEC to ensure that we have a very peaceful, violence-free, and simple electoral process to usher in new leadership that will be responsible not to themselves but to the people”, Diri stated.
