Barr. Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State and his entourage, which had in attendance, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Abraham Ingobere, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Bayelsa chapter, Hon. Solomon Agwuana and other top government functionaries, visited the Governor of Bayelsa state Douye Diri at Governor’s Conference Hall, Government House, Yenagoa.
The Governor’s visit to the neighboring state is in his bid to seek support from the people of Bayelsa state as he runs for seat of President in the People’s Democratic Party.
Receiving the Governor, Douye Diri said, I will only give credence to what you have said, first, there is no doubt that you are son of the soil, that I said there is just a thin line that exist between Bayelsa and Rivers and that is the administrative line. And so, for me, the challenges of the South South, the challenges of the Niger Delta, the challenges of Rivers and Bayelsa, you have worn the shoe, and it is only those who wear the shoes knows where it pinches. And so, there is no other aspirant that understands our challenges and our problems more than you because you are indeed from this place.
We can only but pray, that our son, as he is going out for battle, we are behind him. We have been agitating for the constitution of our party to be implemented, which follows that, we have had a Northern president for 8years and we believe that for the sake of equity, fairness and justice, it should actually revert to the Southern part of Nigeria.
The presidency should actually have the support of the North to be moved to the South, and so for me, I still stand on it, and not cajoling anybody but to appeal to the sensibilities of our brothers on the other side from the North, you support us this time and when it is your turn, we will equally support you.
And so, let us avoid campaigns of calumny and let us have an issue based campaign. The unity of all of you aspiring to lead us as president is very paramount, peradventure, God chooses one out of all of you, please my advice is that we should still all come together at the end of the day, to keep PDP strong and to have PDP as the party that will take over in 2023.”
