The leadership of the labour party and its expanded stakeholders have taken strong steps to reposition the party for electoral victory in the 2027 election. This action was initiated by the 2023 Presidential candidate and Leader, Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti the Governor of Abia State in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
Participants in the historic event include Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Party, Senators, House of Representatives members, the Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, the former Governorship candidates of the Party in the 2023 elections and the candidates for the forthcoming Edo and Ondo States Governorship election.
Recall that the Labour Party has been enmeshed in a leadersip crisis following the refusal of the Abule-led NWC to leave office after the expiration of its tenure on the 10th of June 2024.
At the meeting. Mr. Peter Obi assured party members that Labour Party remains the preferred Party by the majority of Nigerians and urged members to ensure its continued viability by peaceful and orderly management of party affairs.
A 29-member caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman as Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Secretary and other members representing various interests including the NLC, TUC, Senate, House of Representatives, House of Assembly and the Gubernatorial candidates in the last elections has been constituted to immediately ensure that the ward, local government, and State and National Congresses and Convention of LP are held as soon as possible, following the Constitution of the LP.
