Leadership Crisis in the Labour Party takes a new face.

Leadership Crisis in the Labour Party takes a new face.

The Labour Party (LP) has taken a bold step to address the leadership crisis the party is currently bedridden with. A communique issued by the party after a joint stakeholders’ meeting has mandated a transition committee under the leadership of the NLC political commission to set up structures at the National, State and ward levels for the conduct of the Labour Party Congress. Consequent to this directive, many states in the nation are taking steps to replace the leadership of the party that has overstayed its mandate by more than five years.

In Akwa Ibom state, the NLC Political Commission in conjunction with critical stakeholders of the party has brought an end to the tenure of the party leadership under Lincoln Charles. The party has set up an interim working committee to take charge of party affairs.

A spokesman for the party informed Eveafrique’s news correspondent that the state transition committee has been mandated to align with the National and state NLC and TUC Political Commission to set in motion the process of conducting congress in 329 wards of 31 Local Government Areas. Comrade Akan Isong has been named the chairman of the interim state working committee. 3 Deputy Chairman were also appointed from three senatorial districts including another 3 from NLC, TUC and a woman leader.

Lincoln Charles has been requested to hand over all the Labour Party property and documents under his care and to cease parading himself as the Chairman of the Labour Party in Akwa Ibom state. The party also called upon all its supporters, INEC, and the public to accord all due recognition to the Comrade Akan Isong-led Interim committee.
