The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board held a Stakeholders meeting to deliberate on strategies yo ensure a successful maternal, Newborn and child health week in its 28th Season this year.
The bi-annual event will hold between the 22nd to the 26th of July 2024.
The initiative will tackle 5 full days of free medical services to pregnant women, Newborn immunisations and healthcare services fir children upto 5years old all over Rivers State.
Speaking at the event, Dr Joy Whiyoka appealed passionately to stakeholders to ensure their communities come out to take full advantage this totally free gift from the Rivers State govt.
Also speaking Dr Tamunobekema Jaja and Dr Diane Babbo shared some of the plans fir the week which included free delivery for pregnant women registered and not registered at the govt healthcare facilities, free family planning consultations and medications, immunization for children from age 0- 5, nutritional lectures using locally available and affordable ingredients , free Malaria testing and medication where necessary, de-worming and dissemination of new trends in healthcare.
The Board has also made arrangements to provide temporary Healthcare Centres for communities which do not currently have a Centres.
