The young lad Chizi Weli won the Silver Medal in Coding Computer Science in the just concluded International Science Technology and Mathematics Competition held in Paris recently.
Weli, a Class Two Student of Bishop Okoye Spiritant Secondary School, Oyigbo in Rivers State was among other students of his school that went for the competition.
The competition which started on the 12th of July, ended on the 19 with 44 countries in participation.
According to him, his school was the only secondary school that represented the country in the international competition in Paris
He said that ten students from his school participated in different areas of the competition and won trophies in different categories of grading such as Gold, Silver, Bronze and honours.
According to him, the nomination for the competition was based on online test at the website site of the organizers with a stipulated amount, adding that only successful students are shortlisted for the International Competition.
He said the test is open for both public and private schools in the country.
The competition which is usually sponsored by parents of the students going on such International Competition is a huge financial cost that needs the support of government.
The parent of the son ESV, Badume Weli call on the Federal Government to set up a grant through the Ministry of Education to reduce the financial burdens of parents whose children are qualified to embark on such competition without hitches, as well as, encourage more participation of science students among their pairs globally.
He equally call on the State Government and Obio Akpor Local government Chairman to welcome and support these young talents and worthy ambassadors of Rivers State.
