In a bid to strengthen capacity and prepare the Ward Councillors for maximum performance, the Akuku-Toru Local Government Council has commenced a three (3)-day Legislative Orientation Training for the Legislative Arm of the Council.
Declaring the Legislativr Training programme open in Port Harcourt, the Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Tonye Briggs-Oniyide, DSSRS, FWASCA assured that her Administration will continue to deliver on its core mandate to the People.
Describing the theme of the Legislative Training ” Effective Legislation: A catalyst for Good Governance” as apt, Mrs. Oniyide urged the Councillors to see the training as an opportunity to sharpen their Legislative skills and learn new methods of Legislation and oversight procedures that will benefit the People.
” I am aware that the task before you is enormous,” hence this decision to build your capacity and prepare you for greater service to our people.” She noted”.
“Therefore, I urge you not to make light of this opportunity ” as the the Local Government Autonomy confers on us the right to determine how to administer this Local Government efficiently, ” and that efficiency can only come if you support us with People centred legislation”, she hinted”.
The Council Boss further stressed the need for a collective effort towards encouraging wealth transfer through partnerships and providing needed interventions for the people of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
“As you would recall, I am committed to providing a leadership that will unlock the potentials of this Local government for greatness, empower our people, and it’s for the above reasons that my mantra remains SERVICE ABOVE SELF,”she emphasized.
Hon. Tonye Briggs-Oniyide, also, hinted that at the end of the 3days training programme, it is expected that the Councillors would have been impacted with enough knowledge that will improve their leadership skills at various parts of the LGA.
Speaking at the event, the Leader of the Akuku-Toru legislative Council, Hon. Asheal Solomon Jack, narrated the importance of the training workshop, which is designed to enhance the understanding and roles of Lawmakers, as well as equip them with the skills needed to tackle the complexities of modern governance in the area.
The 3-day intensive training session is expected to come to an end on Saturday 23rd November 2024.
