The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 19-year-old undergraduate student identified as Benjamin Nnamani Daberechi after he was caught trying to export 7.2 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in crayfish package to Europe.
Daberechi, who was traveling Cyprus for his undergraduate studies, was apprehended at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
According to Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, the teenage suspect was intercepted on July 12 during the passenger clearance process for Turkish Airlines flight TK 0624.
During questioning by the agents, Daberechi claimed he was a student heading to Cyprus, but a thorough search of his luggage revealed 7.2kg of a whitish substance concealed inside a sack of crayfish. A field test confirmed that the substance was indeed methamphetamine.
