NiMet, Adamawa State University Sign Climate Partnership Agreement
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Adamawa State University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost early warning systems and advance climate research in Nigeria.
The agreement is designed to improve the speed and accuracy of real-time weather alerts, seasonal forecasts, and other warnings tailored for farmers and local communities in Adamawa State. It also provides for joint research, specialized training programs, and the publication of findings addressing region-specific climate challenges.
Speaking at the signing, NiMet Director-General/CEO, Prof. Charles Anosike, stressed the importance of stronger ties between the agency and universities in line with the UN’s Early Warning for All 2027 initiative. He noted that such collaborations will enhance food security, protect lives and property, and strengthen resilience against floods, droughts, and other extreme weather events.
Vice-Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Prof. Augustine Clement, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to the partnership, pledging support for joint projects including educational workshops, research internships, and outreach programs that translate science into practical guidance for policymakers and communities.
The partnership reflects a growing recognition of the role academic–agency collaboration plays in strengthening Nigeria’s response to climate change.
