Opening ceremony of the 12th Nigerian Navy Games 2022

President Muhammadu Buhari was present in Lagos to inaugurate the 12th Nigerian Navy Games as well as commission the Nigerian Navy’s new Sports Complex in Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos state.

The new sports complex comprises of an indoor sports hall, gymnasium and swimming pool, football pitch + pavilion, outdoor courts for handball, volleyball and basketball, and athletics tracks.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the president urged Nigerians to believe in the capability of the armed forces to safeguard and bring long-lasting peace and stability to the country.

He said the security agencies would continue to ensure that all appropriate measures were in place for the safety of Nigerians.

The President added that; ” The construction of this sports complex has provided a standard venue for the Nigerian Navy to host major games as well as an appropriate venue for naval personnel within Lagos to use for training and other recreational purposes.

Present at the commissioning ceremony were the Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya and the Chief of Defence Staff Gen. LEO Irabor.

The Minister of Defence Major General Bashir Magashi, Chairman Senate Committee on Navy, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, Former Chiefs of Naval Staff Jubrilla Ayinla, Akintunde Aduwo and Ibok Ekwe Ibas, were also present.
