The Port Harcourt City One Love Family, under the leadership of their spiritual head, Ambassador Idaere Gogo Ogan, carried out the second phase of their charity initiative, Operation Feed the Needy, across six centers in Rivers State on November 3, 2024.
Speaking with the Eve Afrique News crew, Ambassador Ogan explained that the Port Harcourt City One Love Family is a non-governmental, non-religious organization formed about five years ago by individuals who grew up in Port Harcourt. The group is dedicated to fostering friendship, love, peace, and brotherhood among its members and the city’s residents, which drives its philanthropic initiatives.
Ambassador Ogan highlighted the group’s longstanding commitment to charity and poverty alleviation, dating back to the COVID-19 pandemic when they distributed palliatives to indigent and vulnerable residents of Port Harcourt. He also mentioned other initiatives, such as their free medical outreach programs, aimed at giving back to the community.
This charity event marked the second phase of the Operation Feed the Needy project. The first phase, conducted in July 2024, successfully provided meals to about 5,000 people. Building on that success, the second phase targeted and reached over 10,000 people.
Six teams were deployed to ensure food distribution across various locations. Bravo Squad, led by Ngoye Kabongo Bob-Manuel, covered areas including Number 6 Field, Enugu Waterside, Northern Creek Road, Borokiri, and surrounding environs. Charly Squad, headed by Dr. Paul Oroboigila Wakama JP, handled distribution at Port Harcourt Prison, Bundu Waterside, Stella Maris, Abuja Down, and Lagos Bus Stop. Whisky Squad, under the leadership of Noble Fiberesima, covered Trans Amadi, Slaughter, and Garrison.
Tango Squad, led by Mrs. Helen Odum, distributed food in Casablanca, GRA Phase 3, and Agip. Zulu Squad, led by Hon. Mrs. Tonye Briggs Oniyide, worked in Boro Park, Mile 1-3, Njemanze, Elechi Beach, and Nanka Waterside. Isiokpo Squad, headed by Acho Ohochukwu, distributed items in Omueke, Wigwe University, and neighboring areas.
The city-wide feeding initiative was a tremendous success and was warmly received by the people of Rivers State, marking yet another milestone in the group’s dedication to uplifting the lives of the less privileged.
