Award-winning Veteran Nollywood actress Hilda Dokubo who double as an activist and youth advocate on Friday unveiled her book titled THE WATERSIDE GIRL to mark her birthday celebration in Port Harcourt on Friday 20th October 2023.
The book is a collection of stories and epoch of the author’s journey becoming an inspiration to other people.
Speaking to newsmen, Hilda Dokubo while expressing her passion and drive for embarking on this intellectual journey said the book is a true story of a young waterside girl who it seems when she started has no future but created her own future.
“I wanted people to learn I want the young people to be encouraged I wanted women to know they too can create whatever future that they want for themselves that they cannot allow Circumstance location change the trajectory to their life you cannot let that happen your destiny is in your hands. They are the painters of pictures of the life that they want and it will take only them.”
The event also featured launching of the Waterside girl project; a humanitarian initiative to support the Niger Delta girl child.
“The Waterside girl project is a project that has been designed to support girl from Lonely backgrounds through school or to setting up things that are required to create sustainable businesses and helping those ones that are challenged by low self-esteem or torture or neglect to find a new road and chart it for them. The plan is to run three segments of programmes simultaneously that include a back-to-school programme which will be the one catering for young kids in primary and secondary school, scholarships for undergraduate students.
“The whole idea is to ensure that young people don’t give up and even older ones don’t give up, keep pushing until you succeed,” Hilda Dokubo said.
