Port Harcourt Mile 1 market suffers demolition

Popular thrift Wears Market also known as Okirika wake up or bend down select Mile 1 market which operates on the railway lines in Port Harcourt has been demolished following plans to revamped the Railway lines.

Recalled that, some time in 2022 the Rivers State Government served the traders notice to vacate the area before the demolition.

The market which was demolished on Tuesday 10th January 2023 is to pave way for the construction of the new railway lines along the rail route when the train service commences.

However, our correspondent Suoyo Ekubo reports that some of the traders lamented about the demolition of the market. A trader who chose to remain anonymous, said the government would have given them some time to make sales as the year is just beginning.
