RHI TRAINS FARMERS, WOMEN, YOUTHS IN RIVERS TO STRENGTHEN FOOD SECURITY
In a move to boost food security and rural livelihoods, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has begun training farmers, women, and youths in Rivers State on sustainable agricultural practices and agribusiness management.
The workshop, held at the Ministry of Justice Auditorium in Port Harcourt, was declared open by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Lady Valarie Fubara, wife of the Rivers State Governor on Friday.
Lady Fubara described agriculture as a vital enterprise that demands knowledge and innovation, urging participants to take full advantage of the training ahead of the Agricultural Empowerment Programme scheduled for October 14.
“Those in poultry or crop production will learn better ways to care for their livestock and crops. Knowledge is key to empowerment,” she said.
The workshop featured technical sessions on crop production, livestock, and poultry management, offering practical lessons designed to increase productivity and sustainability.
Delivering a keynote titled “General Smart Agriculture in Relation to the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI),” Prof. Udensi Udensi, Dean of Agriculture at the University of Port Harcourt represented by Prof. Joseph Orluchukwu highlighted the importance of adopting smart farming technologies to meet growing food demands.
He called for stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors, urging government to promote smart farming, provide subsidies, modern tools, and infrastructure to empower farmers and expand agricultural output.
