On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Central Medical Stores, Ministry of Health, Industry Road, Opposite NPA Entrance, the Rivers State Government and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) collaborated to flag off the federal government’s grain distribution in Rivers State.
Permanent Secretary Ministry of Special Duties, Dr. Agiriye M. Harry, welcomed participants and explained that the event was for the ceremonial handover of grains from the federal government through NEMA to the state government. He emphasized that the distribution would be done from LGAs to wards and then to units.
NEMA DG, Dr. (Mrs) Zubaida Umar, represented by Mr. Brownson Brandam, Acting Director, South South, presented a breakdown of the assorted food items for distribution, including maize, millet, and garri. Rivers State was allocated 17,970 50kg bags of maize and 3,680 25kg bags of garri.
The food items will be shared equally among LGAs and distributed based on presidential directions. 20% will go to religious organizations and 3% to boarding schools in each LGA.
His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Executive Governor of Rivers State, represented by Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Secretary to the Governor, accepted the grains on behalf of the state government. He appreciated the president’s kind gesture and encouraged NEMA to work with caretaker chairmen for effective distribution. He flagged off the immediate distribution of the items to all 23 LGAs in Rivers State.”
