RIVERS STATE NEWS RECAP.

Rivers State Government has announced plans to launch the monumental Trans-Kalabari road project in May 2024. Speaking at a Thanksgiving celebration honouring Governor SIM Fubara’s victory at the Supreme Court in Degema LGA, the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, revealed that preparations have been finalized for the inauguration of the “original” Trans-Kalabari road.

Danagogo emphasized the significant benefits Degema and surrounding areas will reap from the completion of the road project. He highlighted that Tombia, Bakana, Ogurama, Bukuma, and other areas will now have road access for goods and services.

Also, The State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has said that every effort at achieving development in any society will come to waste if the health of the people is not adequately factored into it.

This, he said, is the reason why his Administration has started intensifying efforts at reviving the near comatose health sector that operated without an effective secondary healthcare facilities in the State.

Governor Fubara stated this when he received a delegation of the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) led by its National President, Dr Uche Ojinmah, at Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday.

The Governor also confirmed the appointment of Prof. Chizindu Dike Alikor as the substantive Chief Medical Director of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH).

Governor Fubara explained that provision of quality healthcare service and development efforts needed to be properly integrated to achieve set overall goals.

Moreso, The Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has restated his Administration’s firm support to President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government people-oriented policies aimed at improving the well-being of the people and providing critical social services to Nigerians.

Governor Fubara also emphasised that his Administration was determined to build an egalitarian society where people can freely voice their opinions, be bold to criticise his Government constructively to further advance good governance.

The Governor insisted that nothing close to the use of plain cloth security officers to intimidate or harass the citizenry will be associated with his Administration.

Governor Fubara made the remark at the commissioning of the Comprehensive Primary Healthcare Centre in Ndoni Town, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday.

This is even as the former Governor of the State, Dr Peter Odili has endorsed the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara as the political leader of the State.

Governor Fubara said, “But I thank God that whatever it is they think or imagined we are doing, we are happy we are touching lives. Everyone can attest to it. But one critical project, one specific aspect of it is the well-being of our people.

“We made a promise to Mr. President to support him, and we will continue to support him. How do we support him?

“It is to ensure that the welfare of our people is provided for. It is to ensure that our people, those in critical need, we make them happy in this harsh economic situation.

Furthermore, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that all the policies and programmes of his Administration are tailored towards the protection of interest of Rivers people, especially the youths.

This, he said, is borne out of the importance his Administration attaches to youths’ development and empowerment as leaders of tomorrow.

Governor Fubara disclosed this when he received the youths of Emohua Local Government Area under the auspices of “Emohua Youths For SIM” on solidarity visit to Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday.

He noted that his Administration has put in place modalities that will boost the livelihoods and well-being of Rivers citizens, which youths of Emohua will also benefit when they materialize.

The Governor, who spoke through the Rivers State Head of Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, pointed out that the recently awarded Elele-Omudiaga-Egbeda-Ubimini-Ikiri-Omoku Road, the ongoing Emohua-Kalabari Road, reinstatement of illegally sacked workers of Emohua Local Government Area and the approval for electrification of the area, are part of deliberate measures to open up the area to make life conducive and more meaningful for the people.

Finally, The Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that the State Government would work harmoniously with the Federal Government to address the issue of housing affecting low income earners in the State.

This synergy, he said, will no doubt reduce the pressure faced by citizens facing the challenge of housing, which is not only affecting low income but also medium income earners.

Governor Fubara made the assertion when he received the management team of the Federal Housing Authority of Nigeria (FHAN), led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The Governor, who noted that the problem of housing has become a major issue confronting Nigerians, said the Rivers State Government recently flagged off a 20,000 housing units project to address the housing needs of low income earners in the State, which, he added, is also in line with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“It is no longer an issue of medium income earners, because medium income earners cannot even afford housing again. So, it is an issue that the government, both at federal and state levels must come together and work together to find a lasting solution. Maybe, we may not completely eradicate the problem, but we can reduce that pressure on the citizens,” he said.
