RSPHCMB HANDS OVER UPGRADED BUNDU AMA MODEL PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRE

The residents of Bundu Ama have celebrated a transformative milestone in local governance as the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board (RSPHCMB) officially handed over a fully revitalised Model Primary Health Centre (MPHC) on Friday.

The event on Friday, which marks the third day of a statewide facility rollout, signifies a shift toward decentralised, high-quality medical access for one of Port Harcourt’s most densely populated coastal communities.

Chairman of Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Dawari George formally handed over the revitalised Bundu Ama Model Primary Health Centre to the community.

Dr. George emphasised that the facility’s long-term success depends on the residents’ willingness to take full ownership and exercise active community oversight.

He urged them to act as dedicated caretakers, ensuring the center remains a sustainable pillar of local health.

Executive Secretary Dr. Chituru Adele noted that Bundu Ama was prioritised for this upgrade due to its dense population and the severely dilapidated state of the previous structure, which had historically discouraged residents from seeking care.

This sentiment was echoed by the Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Sir Allwell Ihunda, who commended the current board for its unprecedented focus on primary healthcare infrastructure.

He observed that the recent wave of renovations represents a level of administrative attention to grassroots health centers that far exceeds previous efforts in the state.

Representing the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Justina Jumbo, officially flagged off a free medical outreach program to mark the occasion.

She praised Dr. George’s leadership for delivering high-impact results in a short timeframe and reminded the community to protect the new medical equipment from theft or misuse.

Chief Warmate, speaking on behalf of Bundu Ama, expressed profound gratitude and pledged the community’s total commitment to maintaining the facility as a game-changer for local healthcare access.
