RSPHCMB Reschedules Integrated Measles campaign in Rivers

In line with the National Measles Elimination Strategic Plan, the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board has announced a new date for its Integrated Measles Vaccination campaign in the State.

The new date announced for Integrated Measles vaccination campaign is billed to commence on the 25th November to 2nd December in one stream across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.

Measles is a vaccine preventable disease in children, characterised by high fever, Cough, catarrh, 1 red eyes, after like three or four days rash on the body of child known as maculopapular rashes. For children that are not vaccinated, there are consequences and aftermath of having measles infection and part of it is pneumonia, severe diarrhea, blindness, deafness and sometimes brain infection.

According to Dr Babbo Diana, SHE for RSPHCMB in communique Said “Age groups 9 months to 5yrs for measles vaccine, 0 to 23 months for other Routine immunizations, under 5yrs for Birth Certification, women 14 to 49 years for cervical cancer screening, adults 18 and above for COVID 19 vaccine.

“Location is schools, government health facilities, worship houses,” Communique reads in part.
