The Rivers State Police Command said its operatives arrested a security guard identified as Meshark Monday for alleged car theft along the Aba Road area of Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The police alleged that Monday stole a customer’s car undergoing repairs at his place of work and attempted to sell it before luck ran out of him.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
The statement reads, “Meshark Monday, a 27-year-old native of Ogoni in Rivers State, was apprehended by crack operatives of the Olu Obasanjo Division on May 2 around 12:45 am. Driving a Toyota Corolla along Olu Obasanjo.
“Monday’s suspicious manoeuvres caught officers’ attention as he attempted to evade them near the G.R.A junction. After a high-speed chase onto Aba Road, he was successfully apprehended.
“During interrogation, Monday, a security officer at Geepap Mobile Company, confessed to his crime. Despite working there for two years, he had concealed his driving skills.
“He admitted succumbing to temptation when hunger struck at midnight, stealing a customer’s car parked for maintenance to sell and improve his life.”
The PPRO revealed that upon contacting Geepap’s General Manager, Mr Godfrey, it was disclosed that Monday’s driving ability was unknown, as the stolen vehicle was undergoing repairs.”
She added, “The case has been charged to court. Meanwhile, investigations to apprehend Monday’s accomplices in the car theft ring are ongoing ”
Iringe-Koko said the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, urged individuals to install security cameras and alarms to prevent such incidents outside of working hours.
