President Bola Tinubu says plans are underway to complete the rehabilitation of the East-West Road connecting Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio who represented President Tinubu said this on Friday at the end of a Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit in Port Harcourt.
He blamed the non-completion of the project on leaders from the Ogoni ethnic nationality whom he said stopped him from completing the East-West Road when he served as the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Senator Akpabio said the Ogoni leaders led a delegation to the former President and pleaded with him to transfer the East-West Road from his ministry to the Ministry of Works.
Senator Akpabio, however, said the President has authorised the NDDC to secure a N1 trillion loan to complete all abandoned projects in the Niger Delta including the East-West Road.
