Bayelsa Govt Takes Delivery of Additional Vessels to Boost Marine Transport
The Bayelsa State Government has taken delivery of additional marine vessels as part of efforts to strengthen water transportation and advance its Blue Economy initiative.
The Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin, disclosed this in Yenagoa, noting that the newly acquired assets include a cargo barge, cruise vessels, passenger ferries, and water ambulances.
According to her, the acquisition is targeted at enhancing maritime transportation, boosting tourism, and improving marine logistics across the state. She added that the new vessels will complement the existing fleet already operating within Bayelsa’s extensive waterways, thereby ensuring safer, faster, and more efficient movement of people and goods.
Dr. Zibs-Godwin commended Governor Douye Diri for his unwavering commitment to the development of a modern, reliable, and safe marine transport system, describing the intervention as a major step towards unlocking the state’s vast aquatic economic potential.
She further assured residents that the government remains committed to continuous investments that will transform the marine sector and improve the overall quality of life for riverine communities.
