Court Orders PDP to Proceed with National Convention in Ibadan

An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to go ahead with its national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in the Oyo State capital.

The order was issued on Monday by Justice Ladiran Akintola in suit number I/1336/2025, filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi. The defendants include the PDP, Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Akintola restrained the defendants from taking any action that could obstruct or frustrate the conduct of the convention. He further directed the PDP to strictly follow its earlier released guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities.

The court also ordered that the convention must hold in Ibadan as planned, and instructed INEC to attend and monitor the process in accordance with the Electoral Act.

Justice Akintola held that the claimant presented a valid case requiring urgent intervention and noted that the claimant acted transparently by filing both an ex parte application and a motion on notice.

The case has been adjourned to November 10, 2025, for the hearing of the motion on notice.

A certified true copy of the ruling was issued under the seal of the court and signed by Mrs. S. O. Hammed, Principal Registrar, on November 3, 2025.
