Dangote Releases Details of Alleged $5m Spent by NMDPRA CEO on Children’s Education

Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has released details of his allegation that the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, spent about $5 million on the secondary school education of his children in Switzerland.

In a paid newspaper advert published on Tuesday, Dangote claimed the amount was spent on four children—Faisal Farouk, Farouk Jr., Ashraf Farouk and Farhana Farouk—over a six-year period.

The billionaire had on Monday accused Ahmed of paying $5 million to Swiss secondary schools for his children’s education, describing the alleged action as economic sabotage and corruption.

Detailing the claim, Dangote listed the schools attended as Montreux School, Aiglon College, Institut Le Rosey and La Garenne International School. He presented estimated annual tuition, living expenses, air travel and upkeep, multiplied across the four children and years of study.

According to him, the annual cost of tuition, airfare and upkeep per child was about $200,000, amounting to $800,000 yearly for four children. He added that total living expenses and air tickets per child over six years came to $1.2 million, or $4.8 million for all four, bringing the combined estimated cost to $5 million.

Dangote also listed tertiary education expenses, estimating tuition, upkeep and related costs at about $125,000 per year over four years, totaling $500,000 per child and $2 million for the four children.

He further stated that Faisal completed an MBA at Harvard University in 2025, with tuition of $150,000 and an additional $60,000 for upkeep, tickets and incidentals, amounting to $210,000.

Dangote said Nigerians deserve to know the source of funds allegedly paid by a public officer, noting that many parents in Ahmed’s home state of Sokoto State struggle to afford school fees.
