Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines & Agriculture (PHCCIMIt was an evening filled with dance, goodwill, vibrant music, and celebration as the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) marked a historic milestone by honoring their first female president, Dr. Chinyere Nwoga. This groundbreaking achievement comes 67 years after the chamber’s establishment, signifying a new era of progress and inclusivity in its leadership.
The event which was held at the city centre witness an array of prominent personalities who came to honour the first female president of PHCCIMA.
Speaking at the event, the immediate past president of PHCCIMA, Eze Sir Mike Elechi, highlighted the critical role the chamber plays in driving economic growth and development. He praised Dr. Chinyere Nwoga for her exemplary leadership qualities, expressing confidence that her tenure will usher in a new era of expansion and progress for the organization.
Eze Sir Mike Elechi’s remarks underscored the significance of this historic milestone and the expectations for Dr. Nwoga’s presidency to further elevate PHCCIMA’s impact on the business community and the economy at large.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, pledged his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for Dr. Chinyere Nwoga and other business organizations to thrive. He emphasized that the government’s role is to support businesses by reducing the burden of taxes and fostering a business-friendly climate. Oo
Governor Fubara’ highlighted his dedication to promoting economic growth and ensuring that businesses in Rivers State can operate successfully under favorable conditions. His assurance further bolstered the optimism surrounding Dr. Nwoga’s tenure as PHCCIMA president.
Also, the chairman of the occasion Senator John Azuta Mbata, emphasized that “Government has no business in business but should partner with relevant bodies to ensure that businesses thrive.” He called on all members of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) to rally behind Dr. Chinyere Nwoga, offering their full support to ensure the success of her tenure.
His remarks highlighted the importance of collaboration between the private sector and government in fostering economic growth and development, as well as the collective effort needed to drive PHCCIMA’s vision forward under Dr. Nwoga’s leadership.

Dr. Nwoga emphasized the chamber’s role as the second-largest in the country, reaffirming its dedication to sustaining an ecosystem that fosters trade partnerships and collaborations. She highlighted PHCCIMA’s commitment to advocating for the provision of necessary infrastructure, promoting ease of doing business, and facilitating access to funding opportunities for businesses in the state. Dr. Nwoga has gathered over 35 years of cross-industry experience. From 1987 to 1991, she worked as a Radio Presenter at Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) FM, Owerri. In 1990, she moved to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where she became the Corporate Affairs Manager/ Special Adviser to the Chairman Erijoy Nigeria Ltd. From 1992 to 1997, she was Corporate Affairs Manager of a Shipping & Logistics company Revic International Ltd.1997 saw Dr. Chinyere Nwoga move into publishing. She rose to become the Regional Representative South-South/South East Fourth Dimension Publishing Company.
In 200, she worked as the General Manager at Visa Karena Hotels Port Harcourt, and by 2003, she became the Managing Director Taraba Fisheries Ltd. a company that managed the biggest fisheries Coastal Terminal in the country, located in Borikiri, Rivers State.
This facility owned by Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Natural Resources which had the capacity to accommodate over 40 vessels at any given time, had a docking section for vessel repairs, and an aluminum boat building section. She has to date, been the only female to manage a Federal Government owned terminal.
The Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) was established in 1957 as an interest group with the mission of promoting and articulating business interests in the Niger Delta and its surrounding environment. Over the years, PHCCIMA has grown significantly, earning its place as the second-largest and one of the most active chambers of commerce in Nigeria.
The chamber continues to play a pivotal role in fostering economic growth, supporting businesses, and driving sustainable development in the region.
The event was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including Dele Kelvin Oye Esq., National President of NACCIMA; His Majesty Eze Amb. Sir Leslie Nyebuchi Eke JP; HRM Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere; and Amb. Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.
Their presence added prestige to the occasion, reflecting the significance of Dr. Chinyere Nwoga’s investiture as the first female president of PHCCIMA.
