The Federal University of Environment and Technology FUET, Koroma Saakpenwa in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, has formally commenced academic activities with the announcement of its maiden matriculation ceremony, which will see 1,004 pioneer students admitted into 28 departments across six faculties.

Speaking during a media briefing held on Monday January 26, 2026, the Pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom JP DSSRS, declared that the university is set to hold its historic maiden matriculation on Tuesday February 3, 2026. He described the development as a defining milestone not only for the institution but also for Ogoniland and the wider Niger Delta region.

According to him, the 1,004 students will be admitted into the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Engineering Technology, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, and the Faculty of Management Technology. He disclosed that although the university was not initially listed in the 2025 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, it secured approval for candidates to transfer their admissions. Over 2,000 prospective students applied, but only about half were admitted in line with the institution’s carrying capacity.

The Vice Chancellor outlined a three day programme of activities to mark the Founders’ Day and maiden matriculation ceremony. Activities will commence on Sunday February 1, 2026, with a Thanksgiving and Spiritual Dedication service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Tai Archdeaconry, at 10 am. On Monday February 2, 2026, a Founders’ Day Roadshow will hold from the Saakpenwa Campus to Gbam Junction as part of public engagement and environmental stewardship activities.
