FG Unveils Revised Public Service Rules

The Federal Government on Thursday ordered federal ministries, departments, agencies, and parastatals, among others, to commence the implementation of the new public service rules with immediate effect.

Speaking at the unveiling of the newly-revised public service rules and also commemorating Civil service week in Abuja, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federal, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, “said The newly-revised Public Service Rules were revised before the end of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration and in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu, we are launching it and we expect that MDAs will begin the implementation.”

Yemi-Esan, said the Service would complement the effort of the current administration towards promoting good governance and transformation of the Civil Service to world class standard.

The Revised Public Service rules has in its provisions, tenured system for Permanent Secretaries who shall hold office for a term of four years and another renewable term based only on satisfactory performance.

Also in the revised rule, a Director or its equivalent as may be prescribed by other MDA’s shall compulsorily retire upon the attainment of eight years in that position.

According to the special adviser to the President on monetary policy, Olawale Edun the Civil Servants are key stakeholders in formulating and implementing government policies.

In a lecture titled “Driving Digital Transformation in Nigeria,” the quest lecturer and Professor of Economics Policy, University of Oxford, USA, Stefan Dercon maintained that the digitization of work processes in the Civil Service would improve interaction, save cost and transaction time.

The Public Service Lecture theme is “Digitization of Work Processes in the Public Service: A Gateway to Efficient Resource Utilisation and National Development.
