Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney Dies at 84lpplp
Former United States Vice President Dick Cheney has passed away at the age of 84.
Cheney, widely regarded as one of the most powerful vice presidents in American history, served under President George W. Bush from January 2001 to 2009.
Before his tenure as Vice President, Cheney served as White House Chief of Staff to President Gerald Ford in the mid-1970s and later as U.S. Secretary of Defense, where he oversaw key military operations, including the Gulf War.
As Vice President, Cheney was considered the chief architect of the Iraq War, shaping U.S. foreign and defense policy during a defining era in global politics.
In 2010, Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) named him in connection with an alleged bribery scheme involving oil services giant Halliburton Co, where Cheney had previously served as CEO. The case involved alleged payments of about $180 million to Nigerian officials.
Cheney, through his lawyers, denied any wrongdoing, noting that both the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission found no evidence of impropriety during his tenure at Halliburton.
