GOV FUBARA INSPECTS PACE OF WORK AT RIVERS STATE FIRE SERVICE STATIONS WHICH IS CURRENTLY BEING REVAMPED AFTER 12 YEARS OF NEGLECT
…Facility To Be Commissioned In March
…Procures Fire Fighting Trucks
After over a decade of abandonment, the Rivers State Government, under the proactive leadership of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, is finally resuscitating the state fire service to enhance emergency response.
As part of this bold initiative, the Governor inspected three major fire service stations currently undergoing reconstruction across the state.
The inspected facilities include the Mile 1 (Abali Park) Fire Service Station, Rumuodumaya Fire Service Sub-Station, and Borokiri Fire Service Sub-Station, all slated for commissioning in the first week of March 2025.
In addition to the reconstruction efforts, Governor Fubara has also ensured the procurement of state-of-the-art fire fighting trucks to strengthen firefighting capabilities across the state.
As of now, four of these advanced trucks have already arrived, with more on the way. These trucks will be distributed across all fire service stations to guarantee a swift and effective response to emergencies.
Speaking after the inspection, Governor Fubara expressed his determination to end years of dependency on multinationals like Shell, Agip, and Chevron for fire outbreak responses.
âFor over 12 years, Rivers State has lacked a functional fire service. We have relied on multinationals to tackle fire incidents, but this is unacceptable for a government charged with protecting lives and property,â the Governor stated.
He emphasized that the revamped fire service, coupled with the arrival of the new fire trucks, would ensure a rapid and effective response to emergencies, marking a significant shift in the stateâs approach to disaster management.
âOur responsibility as a government is to safeguard our people. Fire incidents can be natural or accidental, but we must be prepared to combat them. These facilities and the fire trucks will equip us to handle emergencies without relying on external support,â he added.
Governor Fubara expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and assured Rivers people that the facilities and necessary equipment would be ready by the promised deadline.
âThe contractors are working tirelessly, and from what weâve seen today, we are on track. By the first week of March 2025, these fire stations will be fully operational,â he said confidently.
Gov. Fubaraâs commitment to reviving the fire service after 12 years of neglect reflects his administrationâs broader focus on delivering effective governance and restoring public confidence in state institutions. With this bold step, Rivers State is poised to take charge of its safety and emergency response needs, ensuring that every corner of the state is equipped and prepared for any fire emergency.
