Honouring Service, Awakening Heritage: Agiri Festival 2026.

The 2026 edition of the famous Agiri festival was formally ushered in with solemn reverence and cultural grandeur in Bille Kingdom. The opening ceremony was conducted by Sir Engr. Adokiye Tombomieye, the Amabelemabo of Bille Kingdom, in whose honour this year’s festival is dedicated. He was accorded a dignified civic reception by the Amayanabo-in-Council, the Ekine Sekiapu and the people of Bille Kingdom, reflecting a collective appreciation of a life devoted to service.

In strict observance of ancestral order, the festival commenced with the appearance of the Aki masquerade, the spiritual gateway of the Agiri Festival. As the drums spoke and the masquerades stepped forth, the land was symbolically awakened, the ancestors invoked, and the spiritual foundation of the festival firmly laid.

The honour bestowed on Sir Engr. Adokiye Tombomieye is deeply rooted in his enduring contributions to Bille Kingdom and Nigeria. A distinguished engineer and respected national figure, he has served the nation with professionalism and integrity, while within the kingdom he has remained a pillar of community development, youth empowerment, educational support, and peace-building.

Through his life and legacy, he embodies the harmony between tradition and modern leadership. The commencement of the Agiri Festival 2026 therefore stands not only as a celebration of culture, but as a spiritual reaffirmation of unity, gratitude, and continuity between the ancestors, the living, and generations yet unborn.
