Inuwa Yahaya Rallies Northern Governors, Traditional Rulers for Joint Action on Insecurity, Socio-Economic Crises

Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has urged northern leaders to unite and take decisive action against worsening insecurity and socio-economic challenges in the region.

Speaking at the Joint NSGF and Northern Traditional Rulers Council meeting in Kaduna, he said recent abductions in Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Kano, Niger and Sokoto, as well as renewed Boko Haram attacks in Borno and Yobe, show that insecurity has become an existential threat. He commended President Bola Tinubu for the swift rescue of some abducted schoolchildren and condoled with affected families.

He warned that “without peace and security, there will be no politics or governance,” stressing that terrorists deliberately target schools and farms to cripple the North. He urged leaders to reject divisive narratives, noting that victims and security personnel come from all tribes and religions.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya highlighted poverty, illiteracy, climate change and poor infrastructure as drivers of insecurity, insisting the region must invest boldly in human capital, economic opportunities and infrastructure.

He described the high number of out-of-school children as “a stain on our collective conscience,” urging coordinated action to get children into school and equip youths for productive futures.

Reaffirming support for state policing, he welcomed President Tinubu’s call for constitutional amendments and urged the National Assembly to give the issue top priority.

He said peace requires the involvement of traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agencies, the judiciary and citizens, stressing that future generations will judge today’s leaders by their success in restoring stability. “Now is not the time for politics but for survival,” he said.
