Navy Rescue 11 passengers from a Sinking Speedboat Along Bonny River in Rivers State
The Nigerian Navy has rescued 11 passengers from a sinking speedboat along the Bonny River in Rivers State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when a boat traveling from Nembe Waterside Jetty, Port Harcourt, to Coal Beach Jetty, Bonny Island, developed engine failure and began taking in water near the Federal Ocean Terminal, Onne. Heavy rainfall reportedly worsened the situation before Navy personnel from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny arrived.
Director of Naval Information, A. Adams-Aliu, confirmed that six men and five women were safely evacuated and taken to the NLNG Jetty for medical checks before being handed over to the Marine Police.
Meanwhile, the Navy has intensified its crackdown on crude oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta. Several makeshift refineries were dismantled across Delta and Rivers States, including sites in Warri South-West, Bakana-Isaka axis, Bonny, and Opumani Creek.
The Navy said the operations reflect its renewed commitment under the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, to secure Nigeria’s maritime environment and protect national economic assets.
