NNPC Ltd. Welcomes Victorious D’Tigress After Fifth Consecutive AfroBasket Title.
The atmosphere at the NNPC Towers in Abuja was electric yesterday as the Chairman of the NNPC Ltd. Board, Engr. Musa Ahmadu Kida, led the Senior Management of The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in welcoming D’Tigress, Nigeria’s Women’s Basketball Team, following their remarkable victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
The team, accompanied by Mr. Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), had extended their dominance on the African continent by defeating Mali 78–64 in the finals held recently in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. This victory marks their fifth consecutive championship title and seventh overall, solidifying their position as Africa’s basketball queens.
Engr. Kida, who also serves as President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), applauded the unmatched resilience, discipline, and consistency of the team and coaching staff. He noted their historic feat of maintaining an unbeaten streak on the continent for over a decade, calling it a golden era for Nigerian women’s basketball.
In his remarks, GCEO of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, praised the team and the NSC for bringing pride to the nation. He also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting sports development across Nigeria, recognizing the power of sports in uniting and inspiring the nation.
Members of NNPC Ltd. staff gathered in high spirits to honour the champions, sharing in the joy and national pride their victory has ignited.
